Ex-car thief and broke construction worker, Leah Ryan, has teamed up with repossession king and ex-defense lawyer, Callahan Parker, to chase twisted drug lord, Brent Woodard. Will Callahan find Leah before she falters or do the bad guys win it all in their steamy surroundings?
Ms. Sharp has woven action with a great plot, leaving the reader mesmerized until the dramatic conclusion. There is a lot of emotion in Leah and Cal's plight, which gives us a solid balance with the action and suspense, creating a believable romance between the hero and heroine. Ms. Sharp has made her characters very believable, all the way down to their expressions as well as the whole setting of the story. I particularly liked Leah, whose wit and real life pain makes her stand out as an interesting heroine. She is strong, intelligent, articulate and witty with a fair amount of fire in her. And what can I say about Cal? He is just lethal. Smart and resourceful, he continues to keep his cool with a crew that constantly throws him for a loop. One thing I really like is how despite Leah realizing that she is attracted to Cal, she never lets that attraction overpower her common sense and is tough enough to take down anyone who gets in their way. The emotions that go through their heads while they are sizzling between the sheets make the scenes extra special. Sigh!
The secondary characters are really well drawn and I would love to read more about them. Jack, from Leah's shady past, is one I have my eyes set on.
Sharon, Jesse, and Amada all feel like people I could encounter somewhere, sometime, in my life. The goose bumps Brent and the gang gave me are still there, even though I read the book hours ago. This story keeps one reading until the climatic yet poignant end. I would call it the perfect debut. This book would make one hell of a movie! Heart-wrenching situations crop up all along the story.
Hats off to Ms. Sharp! This is the first book in what looks to be a series featuring Leah and Ryan and if the rest of the series is like this, then readers are in for a wild ride! Due to the impressive plot, sensual yet tough characters, and exciting situations, I feel Repo Chick Blues greatly deserving of a Gold Star Award.
